Drum Rack, first impressions
finally bit the bullet and bought a Gibraltar drum rack. 3 towers, two wings, and a messload of clamps. I’ve got it setup with my simmons pads on one side of it. Doesn’t look like i’ll need the second wing for now.

I’ve also purchased a remote hihat stand so i can play this beast without rearranging my feet. In a perfect world, i’ll be able to play both bass drums with a left-footed double kick pedal. But, honestly, it really doesn’t need it.
I have a trigger on the snare drum (which at some point i’d like to move to a piccolo snare so i can have more surface area to strike, there’s just not much real estate on that firecracker snare to have a mic hovering over it without striking the mic repeatedly.

I’ve also paired the alesis DM6 drum brain to a Raspberry Pi that sends the midi info to my SamplePad Pro. This creates a quick conversion piece that expands my sample pad into a fullsize kit. I take the midi strike info and transfer it directly to the pad so i’m still “playing” the samplepad just thru the dm6. This will also allow for midi info to be sent over artnet to queue lights embedded in the back of the simmons toms. Each of those toms will be fitted with a wireless receiver that queues different patterns from Arkaos VDJ.
