Olivia – 10/11/21

Written By Kyle Hux:

Going through my divorce and moving back to Texas was one of the lowest points of my life. I was in a dark place for a long time, and if I’m being honest with myself (and all of you), I still struggle with that from time to time. However, it led me to one of the brightest points in all of that muck. Olivia.
I remember when she came across my feed, needing a new home due to an emergency situation in her home life. Two things came to mind: First, don’t be the freshly divorced dude who gets a dog to fill the void. Nobody likes that trope. And second, well maybe you could at least take her in for a week or two while you find her somewhere else to go. How hard could it be, right?
I had her for one night before coming to the irrefutable conclusion that she was now my baby and that I would die AND kill for her. Over the next couple of years, she became my lifeline. As trite and cliché as it may be, she became my reason to keep going after everything in my life fell apart around me.
As life progressed, my brother Tanner and his amazing girlfriend Charlotte offered to take her into their home since they both worked from home, had a yard, and had an overall better situation than where I was at the time. This worked out better for everyone, especially Olivia. She loved it with them, and I was always able to drop by whenever to come see her, so she never thought I forgot about her.
Last night, after an evening like any other, Olivia went to sleep in her bed, cuddled up with her old Medieval Times hoodie/blanket, and did not wake up again. We’re not sure what caused this, but we know she didn’t suffer.
In the end, all I can hope is that she was at peace and that she knew she was loved, because boy was she ever.
