Surviving Knowing

The universe gave us breath and has been working to take it since
Each step taken is a victory against the harshness of spacetime
Each heartbeat a front to an uncaring void
How special to exist at all
How special to develop as we have
To recognize this universe biologically, chemically, atomically
Every cell that’s ever existed has been a lesson in perseverance
Work is to be done inwardly and outwardly
To address our evolution as beings
Emerged as shepherds; caretakers of this intricate and delicate system
Turn away from this responsibility and defy all life come before you
We have risen from this crucible with enormous gifts
Power to shape, edit, arrange
Cognition to create our own tools for such feats
Externalities of Power manifesting
We: one system; Life: a singular thing
An unbroken tether to the first cells emerged from the deep
Whos fossils remind us that they died creating you
Rejoice in the knowledge of their sacrifice
Acknowledge the challenge the universe bestowed us
To survive knowing it at all
